News Desk :
The Jamaat-e-Islami plans to hold a rally on Oct 28 at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar for a general election under a non-partisan caretaker government.

The programme coincides with the BNP’s rally, although the two parties have not demonstrated together for years, reports bdnews24.com

The decision came at a meeting of the Jamaat’s Central Executive Council led by acting chief Mujibur Rahman, the party said in a statement on Monday.

The central executive council calls for an “orderly and peaceful rally” to speed up a campaign for a caretaker government ahead of the general election, according to the statement.

Jamaat called for party workers at all levels not to get “misled” by the rulingparty’s “provocation and unconstitutional and anti-democratic” activities.

In the meantime, Jamaat also sent a letter to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to seek permission to hold the rally.

“We’ve received an appeal from the Jamaat. We will discuss it and later disclose our decision,” said Faruk Hossain, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP.

The Awami League has scheduled a separate rally for Oct 28.
