Jamaat leader terms coming polls “battle of ballot”

Jamaat-e-Islami central working committee member and Dhaka South city secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud has described the upcoming national election as a “battle of the ballot,” urging party activists to treat it as a decisive struggle for the future of the country.
Speaking as the chief guest at a gathering of female leaders and activists at Kalaiya Union Parishad auditorium in Bauphal on Friday noon, Dr. Masud framed the electoral contest not merely as a democratic exercise, but as a fundamental political and ideological struggle.
The event was organised by the women’s wing of the union’s Jamaat chapter, bringing together student and female unit officials from various polling centers.
“Just as we perform Salah with devotion, we must approach the work of establishing the Deen of Allah on His earth with the same sense of responsibility,” he said, stressing that political activism for Jamaat was both a religious duty and a strategic imperative.
He urged female activists to intensify Jamaat’s grassroots outreach, particularly among women. “Our da’wah work must continue. We must reach our sisters. This is a fundamental obligation,” he declared, invoking the party’s mobilization slogan – “From house to house, from person to person” – and calling on members to engage communities ahead of the polls.
Dr. Masud argued that making first contact with individuals often creates an opening for political persuasion. “The first time you reach someone, a certain soft spot for you naturally develops. We want to take advantage of that.
We want to be the first to reach everyone,” he said, outlining a strategy that combines religious engagement with political networking.
The meeting was presided over by Maulana Md. Mosharraf, amir of Kalaiya Union Jamaat. Bauphal upazila Jamaat amir Maulana Ishaq attended as a special guest, along with local Jamaat leaders Md. Hasnain and Mohammad Russell.
