Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Nilphamari district unit, organised a protest rally and procession on Friday at DC Mor in the district town, pressing for five demands including holding the next national election in February based on the July Charter.

The rally was presided over by district Jamaat Ameer and MP candidate for Nilphamari-01, Principal Maulana Abdus Sattar.

Among others, district Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Khairul Anam, district secretary Maulana Antajul Islam, assistant secretary and Nilphamari-02 candidate Advocate Al Farukh Abdul Latif, district publicity and media secretary Lecturer Chadher Hossain, city Ameer Anwarul Islam, and district executive committee member and freedom fighter Moniruzzaman Montu addressed the gathering.

Speakers demanded the upcoming election be held under the July Charter, introduction of the proportional representation (PR) system in both houses of parliament, ensuring a level playing field for free and fair elections, justice for the government’s alleged oppression, genocide and corruption, and a ban on the activities of the 14-party alliance including the Jatiya Party.

After the rally, a large procession was brought out from DC Mor, which paraded through the main streets of the district town and concluded at Borobazar.
