Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held an Iftar mahfil for political leaders, people from different professional groups and journalists at Sonargaon Hotel in the city on Saturday.
The Iftar mahfil was also attended by leaders of BNP and its allies.
Prior to Iftar, Ameer of Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that those who are in power are not our enemy.
We pray to Allah to guide them to the truth. We have the right to resist only when any assault comes on us.
The Constitution of the country also guarantees all the people to do politics as the government people do.
With deep heart, the Jamaat Ameer said we could not hold Iftar for the last eight years.
There were also various difficulties centering our today’s (Saturday) Iftar, he added. He prayed to Allah to grant them as ‘shaheed’ who lost their lives for the struggle for truth and justice.
Earlier, Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Gholam Pawar welcomed the guests at the Iftar party.
Among leaders, BNP ally and LDP President Dr. Col (retd) Olin Ahmed, BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Vice Chairmen Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hosswain Chowdhury, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Adv. Joinal abedin, BNP leader Abduis Salam, Prof. Dr. Farhad Halim Donar, Ataur Rahman Dhali and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khakopn attended the Iftar Mahfil.
The guests also included Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob, Prof. Ataur Rahman Biswas, Prof. Mominur Rahman Majumder, BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi, Editor of The New Nation Md. Mokarram Hossain, Senior journalist M A Aziz, DUJ President Shahidul Islam, former Press Club President Kamal Uddin Sabuj, General Secretary Syed Abdal Ahmad and Senior journalist Khurshid Alam.
