In a statement issued on Friday, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, voiced deep concern over the recent surge in vigilante justice at Dhaka University (DU) and Jahangirnagar University (JU), describing such events as a “grave threat to the country’s peace, stability, and law and order.”

Professor Parwar highlighted the disturbing trend of individuals taking the law into their own hands, calling it a dangerous sign for the nation’s future.

“Such actions pose a severe threat to the country’s peace and discipline,” he said, urging authorities to take immediate action to address the growing problem.

In his statement, Professor Parwar referenced two tragic incidents that occurred on Thursday.

At DU’s Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, a group of students allegedly beat a young man, Tofazzal Hossain, to death on suspicion of theft.

Meanwhile, at Jahangirnagar University, Shamim Molla, a former student leader, was brutally assaulted and killed following repeated physical attacks.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern of mob violence, according to Professor Parwar.

He pointed out that just a day earlier, another youth named Mamun was beaten to death in Khagrachari over accusations of theft, and on September 7, former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Abdullah Al Masud was killed at Rajshahi University.

These cases have sparked widespread outrage across the country, with citizens questioning the efficacy of law enforcement. Professor Parwar condemned the killings as “heartbreaking, cruel, unexpected, and tragic,” expressing his deep sorrow and concern over the loss of life.
