Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami condemned prohibited Awami League’s attack on the National Citizens’ Party (NCP)’s rally in Gopalgonj.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman made a Facebook post titled ‘What is happening in Gopalganj’ regarding the attack by Awami League activists and the banning of activities related to the NCP’s ‘March to Gopalganj’ program.
In the post, the Jamaat Ameer wrote, “Gopalganj is indeed a part of Bangladesh. As far as I know, the NCP leadership had already held discussions with all levels of the administration in a proper manner and sought assistance to carry out their program.
This is their political right. But the current situation shows that there is practically no presence of law enforcement on the ground. The government must immediately take all necessary steps. Otherwise, the full burden of historical responsibility will fall on the government.”
Protesting the attack, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement on Wednesday.
In the statement, Professor Mia Golam Porwar said, “On July 16, the terrorist associates of the fallen Awami fascism launched an attack on the NCP’s pre-announced ‘March to Gopalganj’ program in Gopalganj district.
NCP leaders had previously held discussions with the administration and sought their cooperation to peacefully implement the program. It is the duty of the administration to assist in the implementation of any political party’s program. However, the law enforcement agencies were not seen to be effectively active. This is a matter of grave concern.
Gopalganj is not a district separate from Bangladesh; it is an integral part of the country. The government must play an effective role in maintaining law and order throughout the country, including Gopalganj.”
He further stated, “On August 5, the student-popular uprising toppled the fascist regime of the killer Sheikh Hasina. But the country is still not free from fascism. The fallen autocrat Sheikh Hasina ruled the country with a fascist grip for over 15 and a half years. Now, they are trying to destabilize the country once again through conspiracies.
They aim to reap benefits through various subversive activities. As part of this, today’s attack was carried out on the NCP’s pre-announced program, including cocktail explosions and acts of vandalism. Awami miscreants also vandalized and set fire to vehicles belonging to the UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) and law enforcement. Several police personnel were injured in this terrorist attack. I wish them a speedy recovery and strongly condemn and protest this terrorist assault by Awami miscreants.”
“I urge the concerned authorities to arrest the accomplices of the fallen Awami fascism without delay and bring them to justice through appropriate punishment.”
