On Saturday, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam announced the names of candidates to participate in the local government elections including Parshuram Upazila Parishad in Feni.
According to party sources, Advocate Emdad Hossain has been declared as the candidate for the post of Upazila Chairman, Maulana Abdul Halim as the Chairman of Chithlia Union Parishad, and Professor Nazrul Islam as the Chairman of Box Mahmud Union Parishad.
In addition, Ameer Md. Mostafa of Parshuram Municipality Jamaat-e-Islami will contest for the post of councilor in Ward No. 8 of Parshuram Municipality.
However, no candidate has been officially announced by Jamaat-e-Islam for the post of Parshuram Municipality Mayor so far.
Multiple party sources said that the names of several potential candidates have been sent to the central office and the name of the mayoral candidate will be officially announced after scrutiny.
This announcement of candidacy has already created discussion in the local political arena.
Many believe that Jamaat-e-Islam can have a significant impact in this election by preparing in advance and organizing workers at the field level.
