Dr Shafiqur Rahman, the Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, is scheduled to undergo bypass surgery on Saturday, August 2, according to a statement by the party’s Secretary General, Professor Mia Golam Porwar.
In a statement issued on Thursday night (July 31), Porwar called upon party leaders, activists, well-wishers, and people from all walks of life, both at home and abroad, to pray for the successful surgery and swift recovery of the Jamaat Amir.
“We urge everyone to pray for the successful operation and speedy recovery of our beloved leader through voluntary acts of worship such as Nafl prayers, fasting, and charity in the path of Allah,” Porwar said.
He further added, “On the upcoming Friday, we can gather with our fellow brothers in mosques and pray together so that Allah grants our respected Amir full recovery and strength, and brings him back to the field of Islamic work.”
On July 19, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman collapsed twice during the party’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, leading to his immediate admission to a private hospital in Dhaka.
After initial treatment and discharge, follow-up tests—including an angiogram conducted on July 29—revealed a serious condition: significant blockages in three coronary arteries.
