The protest took place in the wake of International Women’s Day, observed this year under the theme “Accelerate Action”, which calls for urgent measures to address gender inequality says a BSS.

Participants stood in front of the IUB campus holding placards with messages denouncing violence against women and demanding swift action to ensure justice.

Faculty and students from the adjacent North South University also joined in the demonstration, calling for accountability and stronger measures to protect victims and survivors of rape, harassment, and other forms of gender-based violence.

Following the demonstration, protesters marched through several streets in Bashundhara, continuing their calls for justice and reform.

“Violence against women remains a pressing crisis, with growing regression and escalating attacks on women and girls, impacting hundreds across the nation.

Every day, women and girls face abuse, harassment, and discrimination, depriving them of their dignity, safety, and fundamental rights. The IUB community stands in solidarity to raise awareness and demand immediate, concrete steps to address this issue,” emphasized faculty members.

Prof. Razia Sultana Khan said, “We must not remain silent. Ending violence against women requires collective action, and the time to act is now. We are calling on individuals, institutions, and the government to unite to build a safer, more inclusive society for women and girls in Bangladesh.”

The protest highlighted the Bangladeshi academic community’s ongoing commitment to advocating for women’s rights and amplifying calls for justice and equality.
