Abu Ubaida, IU:
The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia today inaugurated a two-day freshers’ reception programme to welcome students of the 2024–25 academic year. On the first day, students of the Law, Science, Social Science, Engineering and Technology, and Biological Science faculties were greeted.
The remaining three faculty students will be welcomed tomorrow, says the ordination organising committee. The programme began with recitation from the holy scriptures and the national anthem. Later, over a thousand freshers were welcomed with flowers and songs, while top scorers from each unit received awards.
IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah presided over the function. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman and former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr S M A Faiz attended as the chief guest. UGC member Prof Dr Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan addressed as a honoured guest, while Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Yeaqub Ali and Treasurer Prof Dr Jahangir Alam spoke as special guests.
Convener of the reception organising committee and Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, Prof Dr Begum Roksana Mili delivered the welcome speech.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr S M A Faiz termed the freshers as Gen-Z and urged them to move forward with their talents. He said, “Looking at you, I feel hopeful. You’ve achieved something that we couldn’t. You guys have built yourselves. So, I urge you not to be lost.” ‘Move forward with your talent, look at your country and give us a great nation,’ he added. He also mentioned the generation gap between teachers and students and urged the teachers to reduce the distance by collaborating with the students.
Congratulating the newcomers, IU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said, “There is no alternative to hard work. Your classroom will be your home, your teachers are your guardians, and your library is the safest place to gain knowledge.”
