IU student strangled to death

Sajid Abdullah, a meritorious student of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia died of asphyxia as a result of suffocation, the final forensic report confirmed.
The report, jointly signed by Nazrul Islam, chief of the Bangladesh Police CID Chemical Laboratory in Mohakhali, and Khulna divisional examiner Jony Kumar Ghosh, confirmed that no toxic substances were found in Sajid’s body. It stated that “the cause of death is due to asphyxia as a result of suffocation which is antemortem and homicidal in nature. Death occurred about 30 hours ago from the time of Postmortem.”
Kushtia Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said, “The findings of the viscera report indicate that this was a homicide.”
Meanwhile, the inquiry committee formed to investigate Sajid’s mysterious death is expected to submit its report by today, according to the committee convener Professor Dr. Emtaz Hossain.
Earlier on July 17, Sajid, a student of Al-Quran and Islamic Studies department under 2021–22 session, was found dead in the pond of Shah Azizur Rahman Hall.
Since the incident, students of the university have been staging demonstrations, demanding a fair and transparent investigation into his death.
