Al Jazeera :

At least 29 Palestinians, including children, are killed throughout Gaza on New Year’s Day in Israeli attacks in northern Jabalia, the central Bureij refugee camp, and southern Khan Younis.
Days of heavy rain have flooded hundreds of makeshift shelters across the Strip, piling more misery on displaced Palestinians as Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian aid.
The United Nations says Israel’s attacks on Gaza’s hospitals have pushed its healthcare system to “the brink of total collapse”, and Israeli justifications that Palestinian armed groups use the facilities are “vague, broad” and “contradicted by publicly available information”.
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 45,553 Palestinians and wounded 108,379 since October 7, 2023. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day, and more than 200 taken captive.
Al-Aqsa TV channel reports two Palestinians have been killed and others injured in an Israeli attack on a residential apartment block on Mushtaha Street in Gaza City’s Shujayea neighbourhood.
Earlier, Palestinian media reported an Israeli quadcopter drone and artillery were bombing continuously in the Shujayea and Sha’af neighbourhoods.
More than 82,000 Israelis moved abroad in 2024 and only 33,000 people immigrated to the country, Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics says.
It was the second year in a row of net departures – a rare occurrence in the history of the country, which was founded by immigrants from Europe and actively encourages Jewish immigration.
Many Israelis, looking for a break from the war, have moved abroad, leading to concerns about whether it will drive a “brain drain” in sectors like medicine and technology.
Last year, 15,000 fewer people immigrated to Israel than in 2023. Another 23,000 Israelis returned after long periods abroad.
Wafa reports that 632 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of Israeli police.
It quoted local sources as saying the intruders carried out provocative tours in the courtyard and performed Talmudic rituals, violating the decades-old status quo that allows only Muslim prayer at the holy site.
Israeli police also prevented Palestinians from entering the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, it added.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) says a new UN report detailing Israeli attacks on Gaza’s healthcare system is further proof of genocide in the war-ravaged Palestinian territory.
“Every day, new evidence of the ongoing genocide in Gaza by the far-right Israeli government comes to light,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a statement.
“It is time the world community, and the genocide-complicit Biden administration, takes concrete action to stop Israel’s slaughter, forced starvation, mass destruction, and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.”
We earlier reported at least 15 Palestinians, including children, were killed and 20 others wounded in an Israeli attack on a home in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
The dead and injured were moved to al-Ahli Arab Hospital, said rescuer Mohammed, who provided only his first name. “They were pulled out from beneath the rubble of the targeted house,” he said.
A relative of some of the victims said first responders are still searching for any survivors.
“The house has turned into a pile of debris,” said Jibri Abu Warda, adding the Israeli attack occurred at about 1am (23:00 GMT on Tuesday).
