Under the banner of “Conscious Citizens’ Forum”, human chains and memorandums were issued on three-point demands including cancellation of increased excessive holding tax by the first class Ishwardi Municipality.
On Sunday (September 29), a memorandum was given to the Deputy Commissioner and Upazila Executive Officer after the human chain program was held at Gate No. 1 of Iswardi Bazar. Citizens of various professions including victimized women, businessmen, rickshaw pullers, students participated in the program.
The memorandum demanded cancellation of enhanced holding tax levied without assessment, publication of list of defaulters on website or local newspaper and publication of white paper on corruption of last ten years to bring the culprits to justice.
Forum convener Rajibul Alam Ivan presided over the meeting. Amir of Pabna district Jamaat-e-Islami Prof. Abu Taleb Mandal and general secretary of Municipal BNP and Ishwardi Press Club SM Fazlur Rahman expressed solidarity with the logical demands of the municipal residents.
Member Secretary of the Forum, Jewel Hossain Sohag, moderated. Rajiv Hasan Rizvi, Karda Shah, Manjura Begum, central member of Sramik Dal and Sathi Begum spoke among others.
