In Ishwardi, people’s life is suffering due to continuous heat wave for 8 consecutive days. There is no comfort anywhere outside the home. There is light in the air. Ishwardi has been burning in intense flames since April 17. Traffic has reduced on the busiest roads of Ishwardi city in the sun. No one leaves the house unless absolutely necessary. Nazmul Haque Ranjan, assistant observer of Ishwardi Meteorological Office, said that on Saturday, April 24, at 3 pm, a temperature of 41.2 degrees was recorded in Ishwardi. The amount of water vapor in the air was 18 percent. Hardworking people are suffering in unbearable heat. In this situation, the number of diarrhea patients has increased. Doctors have advised not to go out unless absolutely necessary. In addition to the intense heat wave in Ishwardi, as the amount of water vapor in the air is low, it is as if the body is getting burnt by the heat of the sun. Meanwhile, public life has been disrupted due to frequent load-shedding in SCADA operations.
The foreign nationals working in Rooppur nuclear power project are in trouble due to rising temperature. Ignoring the intense heatwave, they continue their day’s work. Foreigners are now rarely seen roaming outside their workplaces and residential areas.
On the surface, foreigners working in the Rooppur project have a different picture in the green city area. Where hundreds of foreigners walk, it is deserted. Shops around Green City are also closed.
The workers of the project said that they are tired in summer. Having to work in intense heat. Locals themselves are somewhat accustomed to bear the heat, but Russians and other foreign nationals engaged in the project are in danger.
Farmers fear crop damage if the heat wave is prolonged. Boro rice and litchi farmers are especially worried about the ongoing weather. Medalist litchi farmer Abdul Jalil Kitab Mandal said, the pods are falling due to intense heat. If this situation continues, there will be a disaster in the production of litchi in Ishwardi.
Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that there is severe drought situation. 2-3 inches of water should always be kept in the field of current boro paddy. Besides, 5 kg of potash fertilizer should be applied per bigha in Boro paddy land. Regarding litchi, he said, irrigation should be done in the litchi garden. Under no circumstances should irrigation be done during the day. To be paid at night. No need for fertilizer now. Fertilizer should be applied when the temperature drops.
