Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali paid a courtesy call and exchanged views with Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Mansur Chavoshi.
The courtesy call, organised in the Syndicate Room of the Administrative Building on Thursday (October 16) morning, discussed mutual cooperation in the fields of higher education and research between the two countries.
The Vice Chancellor welcomed the delegation led by the Iranian Ambassador to the campus of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a university in North Bengal.
He briefed the guests about the academic and administrative activities of the university.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali said that the university’s academic activities are being conducted in an improved, fair and beautiful environment, and it is also conducting joint activities in education and research exchange with various universities at home and abroad.
He expressed interest in increasing cooperation in education and research at the university level of the two countries, undertaking joint research projects and conducting publication activities, organizing academic workshops, seminars and conducting educational exchange activities.
Iranian Ambassador Mansur Chavoshi’s wife Zahara Chavoshi and embassy officials were present during the exchange of views.
At that time, the Iranian ambassador said that the sacrifice of martyr Abu Saeed, the pioneer of the July Revolution, is memorable for the whole world.
He is happy to be able to visit his campus. He said that there are several good universities in Iran.
Begum Rokeya University will be able to sign a memorandum of understanding with these Iranian universities to increase mutual cooperation in education and research.
When the Vice Chancellor of Berobi expressed interest in academic ties with Iranian higher education institutions, the Iranian ambassador emphasized more cooperation in the relevant fields.
The meeting was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Nitai Kumar Ghosh, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Kamlesh Chandra Roy, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Emdadul Haque.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Professor Md. Ferdous Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Professor Dr. Md. Tajul Islam, Registrar Dr. Md. Harun-or Rashid, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office, Professor Dr. Md. Ilias Pramanik, Proctor Dr. Md. Ferdous Rahman.

At the end of the exchange of views, the Vice Chancellor of the university presented a souvenir to the delegation of the Iranian Embassy.
