Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that volunteers play a key role in tackling national disasters, preventing accidents, and responding to humanitarian crises.

To encourage young people to engage in volunteer work, coordinated initiatives from both government and private organizations are essential.

The country needs more skilled personnel and volunteer teams for effective earthquake response.

Without proper training, it is impossible to deal with major disasters, which is why the government is emphasizing advanced and modern training.

He made these remarks on Friday morning at the Fire Service Multipurpose Training Ground in Purbachal, Rupganj, Narayanganj, while speaking as the chief guest at the International Volunteer Day 2025 celebration.

The adviser also mentioned that 55,000 volunteers are being trained for disaster management.

A total of 22 individuals were honored for their special contributions.
He further said that the operation to recover heavy weapons ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election is ongoing.

“There has been no failure on the part of the government in recovering the looted weapons,” he said.

The police force works for the people, and if there are any issues within the force, there is room for providing suggestions. The government will accept such suggestions as recommendations.

He also praised the ongoing activities of the interim government, formed following the mass student-public uprising in July-August, aimed at building a just and inequality-free Bangladesh.

During the event, various volunteer organizations showcased their field activities and conducted training-based demonstrations.

Officials from government and private institutions, local representatives, and volunteers attended the programme.
