The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was celebrated in Sylhet on Sunday with the slogan ‘Drug aggression is visible, prevention is the solution’. A joint initiative of District Administration and Directorate of Narcotics Control, Sylhet to celebrate the day in a befitting manner, a colorful rally and discussion meeting and awards were given to the winners in drawing and writing competitions. Sylhet’s Divisional Commissioner (SDC) Abu Ahmad Siddiqui spoke as the chief guest in the programme.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russel Hasan presided over the programme.
Malay Bhushan Chakraborty, Deputy Director of Narcotics Control Directorate, Sylhet gave the welcome speech.
In the chief guest’s speech, the divisional commissioner said, “We have to save our children from drug abuse.”
He said, the young generation especially teenagers are getting seriously addicted to drugs. Which will have an adverse effect on the family-society, even destroying itself. Care must be taken to ensure that children do not become addicted to drugs due to over-discipline, over-love, and indifference of parents.
In the president’s speech, the Deputy Commissioner said that society and family should come forward along with the government to prevent the invasion of drugs.
