Int’l cancer, palliative care confce in Mirzapur

A two-day international cancer and palliative care conference has started at the Kumudini Hospital (Kumudini Complex) built by Shaheed Danbir Ranada Prasad Saha in Mirzapur, Tangail on Wednesday.

Local and foreign experts as well as cancer therapy and palliative care specialists from USA’s Harvard University, Simmons University and Massachusetts General Hospital participated there in a festive atmosphere.

The conference was inaugurated at Pratibha Mutsuddi Auditorium, Principal of Bharateshari Homes, Kumudini Complex. State Minister of Health Education and Family Planning Rokeya Sultana addressed the conference as the chief guest. Secretary of Ministry of Health Education and Family Planning Azizur Rahman was the special guest. Tangail Deputy Commissioner Md. Kaisarul Islam and Mirzapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Nurul Alam were also present.

Earlier, the State Minister and guests visited various service establishments of Kumudini Complex and expressed their satisfaction with the quality of service.

State Minister Dr. Rebecca Sultana said that Shaheed Danbir Ranada Prasad Saha showed humanity by building the Kumudini complex. He is not with us today. But he has left his deeds among us. Examples are Kumudini Hospital, Nursing College, Kumudini Women’s Medical College, Kumudini Handicraft, Bharateshari Homes, Kumudini Pharma, Dental Unit and lastly Cancer Hospital. Honorable Prime Minister Jannetri Sheikh Hasina is directly involved with this institution and the institution is managed with her full cooperation and advice. The state minister promised full cooperation from the government.

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Roy, director of Kumudini Hospital and AGM Animesh Bhowmik Liton said that by creating a platform in the two-day conference, a project called Mamtamayi Kumudini will be launched at Kumudini Hospital (Kumudini Complex) by exchanging knowledge and experience on cancer and palliative care. Besides, the work will be started in three unions involving the common people of Mirzapur upazila.
