On the occasion of International Customs Day, a discussion meeting was held at the Rangpur Customs Excise and VAT Department conference room in Rangpur on Sunday afternoon.
The chief guest was Additional Tax Commissioner in Rangpur Md. Mosharraf Hossain. The programme was chaired by Commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate Rangpur Dr. Abu Noor Rashed Ahmed, and special guests were President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md. Akbar Ali, Acting President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Golam Zakaria Pintu.
The welcome speech was delivered by Additional Commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT Commissioner at Rangpur Ziaur Rahman Khan, while the main paper was presented by Deputy Tax Commissioner of Tax Region Rangpur Md. Habibur Rahman.
The chief guest said that customs is a service organization in the country and plays an important role in revenue collection. In collecting revenue from businessmen, good and beautiful practices should be used so that they are interested in paying taxes. The Tax Commissioner under the National Board of Revenue collects thousands of crores of taka in revenue every year.
Rangpur division also plays a major role in collecting revenue. The program to modernize various land ports of Rangpur division, especially Burimari, Banglabandha, Hili, Sonahat, Biral ports, is ongoing so that goods can be transported and passengers can cross in a short time. There is no scope for irregularities in paying taxes. Anyone can pay their taxes online. Everyone should come forward in paying taxes.
At the event, the speakers highlighted the problems faced by businessmen in paying taxes and the Custom Excise and VAT Department, Rangpur, promised to provide all-round cooperation to businessmen. A documentary was shown to encourage VAT payment. Businessmen, civil society leaders and journalists were present at the event.##
