Sylhet celebrated International Chef Day 2025 with various events throughout the day. For the first time, more than two hundred chefs from famous hotels and restaurants in Sylhet gathered for this event. On this occasion, a day-long program was organized at Parallax Restaurant and Party Center in Dariapara, Sylhet city on Monday. A colorful rally started at around 9:30 am. It left Dariapara, circled the Chohatra, and then returned to the event venue. In the first phase, the chefs described their various experiences in their career. The second phase started at 12:30 pm.
A discussion meeting and an award ceremony were organized in this phase. Reza-e Rafin Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer of Sylhet City Corporation, was the chief guest at the event. Ikramul Kabir, President of Sylhet Press Club, Lubana Yasmin Shampa, President of Sylhet Women Chamber, and Humayun Kabir Liton, President of Tour Operator’s Association of Sylhet also attend the programme as special guest .
The event was addressed by Chef-Day Udjawan Parishad Advisor, Writer and Journalist Md. Faisal Alam, Honored Chef Nazir Dewana, Sajjad Ahmed. Chefs and Cooks, Sylhet Division Convener, Celebrity Chef Kohl Ahmed Tapadar presided over and the lively presentation of Udjawan Parishad Advisor SA Ripon, the event honored talented chefs of Sylhet and gave awards for their contributions in various fields.
The event was addressed by SM Sajjad Chef, Abul Kashem, Helal Ahmed, Azhar Uddin, Shah Alam, Emon Ahmed, among others. Thus, the Chef’s Day was celebrated by cutting a cake with thunderous applause.
In his speech as the chief guest, SCC Chief Executive Officer Reza-e Rafin Sarkar said that culinary artists have been playing an important role in advancing the tourism industry of Sylhet. Because of them, tourism-based institutions in Sylhet are moving forward. Therefore, chefs should be given due respect and appreciation in all fields.
In his speech as the special guest, Sylhet Press Club President Ikramul Kabir said that Sylhet’s tourism potential is recognized by everyone. All that is needed is coordination of all sectors. Only if this can be done, Sylhet’s tourism will move forward. For this, it is important to first evaluate the chefs. In his speech, Sylhet Women’s Chamber President Lubana Yasmin Shampa expressed her determination to stand by any great initiative for the welfare of Sylhet’s chefs.
TOAS President Humayun Kabir Liton highlighted the needs of tourists and said that they are interested in local food along with local and foreign food. Chefs can play an important role in this regard. Various organizations including Pran, Four Star Engineering, HM Poultry, Nestle, Tiger Ghodra Masala, and SM Sajjad Catering Institute have collaborated in implementing the programme.
It is worth noting that International Chef’s Day is celebrated every year on October 20. The day was started in 2004 by the late chef Bill Gallagher. Its aim is to honor the culinary profession around the world, inspire future chefs, and educate children about healthy eating.
