NN Online:

The interim government has strongly condemned the violent attack on National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders, activists, and journalists in Gopalganj, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement issued Wednesday evening via the government’s official Facebook page, authorities described the violence as “utterly indefensible” and a “shameful violation of fundamental rights.”

“It is unacceptable to prevent young citizens from peacefully commemorating the one-year anniversary of their revolutionary movement,” the statement read. “NCP members, police personnel, and media representatives were subjected to brutal assaults, while vehicles were vandalized in broad daylight.”

The government alleged that the attacks were carried out by activists from the banned Awami League and its student wing, Chhatra League. “This heinous act will not go unpunished. The perpetrators will be swiftly identified and held fully accountable. There is no room for such violence in a democratic society,” the statement declared.

Acknowledging the swift action of law enforcement, the interim administration commended both the army and police for intervening to protect lives during the escalation.

“We also salute the courage of students and citizens who continued their rally in the face of threats and violence,” it added.

Reaffirming its stance, the interim government concluded: “Let there be no doubt—violence will not be tolerated. Justice must, and will, prevail.”
