Interim govt to take oath Thursday night: Army chief

Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said on Wednesday that the interim government, headed by Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, will take oath on Thursday night.

He said the size of the government has not been finalized yet, initially some 15 individuals may take oath as the advisers of the interim government. However, one or two more individuals may be added.

General Waker told this at a press conference at the army headquarters in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.

In response to a question, the army chief said, “Dr Yunus is expected to arrive in the country around 2:10pm on Thursday. It would be difficult to arrange the ceremony after that. Therefore, we may hold it around 8pm. The arrangement will accommodate a total of 400 people”.

Meanwhile, General Waker expects that the situation in the country will be normal within three-four days.

He said those who were involved in the crimes committed over the past few days will not spared and legal action would be taken against them.
