BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed confidence on Thursday in the interim government led by Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, stating that his party fully supports the government and is optimistic about its ability to restore stability in the country soon.

“We are hopeful that this interim government, led by Professor Dr. Yunus, can restore the country’s stability shortly with their sincerity, patriotism, and competence.

At the same time, they can go for an election within a logical time frame,” Mirza Fakhrul said after a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.

The meeting, which lasted over an hour, focused on various issues, including the flood situation and the nation’s stability.

Mirza Fakhrul mentioned that the Chief Adviser had invited them for a discussion, describing the meeting as “very fruitful and conducted in a very good manner.”

He expressed the BNP’s belief that the interim government would implement necessary reforms to state systems and institutions before conducting the national elections.

When asked about a possible election date, Mirza Fakhrul responded, “We have not discussed any date (for holding the election).

We won’t say the date. It is the government who will say it.” He also mentioned that there would be further talks with political parties in phases with the Chief Adviser.

Mirza Fakhrul was accompanied by BNP Standing Committee Members Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed during the meeting, which began at 4 p.m. Planning and Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud and Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul were also present.

A press release from the Chief Adviser’s office confirmed that the meeting covered various issues, including reforms, economic conditions, and the national polls. The discussions were described as “close and frank.”
