Insect trichogramma rearing lab opened in Rangpur

RANGPUR: Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute Dr Md Abdullah Yousuf Akhond speaks at a training programme on Mass Rearing Technique of Trichogramma held at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), BARI, Burirhat in the city on Thursday.

A Trichogramma rearing lab has been established with joint collaboration of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) andCentre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), BARI, Burirhat, Rangpur.

BARI Director General Dr. Md. Abdullah Yousuf Akhond, on Thursday formally inaugurated the lab attending the ceremony as the chief guest.

Trichogramma are widely used in agriculture to control pests of various crops, including cotton, sugarcane, maize, vegetables, and orchards.

Utilization of Trichogrammais a natural pest control method which reduces reliance on harmful chemical pesticides.

It is important for plant protection because of its widespread natural occurrence and its success as biological control agent by mass releasing.
