Leaders of the Inqilab Mancha on Sunday issued a 7-day ultimatum to the government, demanding the cancellation of the Awami League’s registration along with two other key demands.
They issued the warning during a rally in front of the Kakrail Mosque’s roundabout, after which the protesters dispersed from the area.
Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi said, “We presented our demands to a representative sent by the chief advisor and he assured us that he would discuss the demands with the chief advisor and get back in touch with us.
“We are giving the current government 7 days to address our three demands. If no action is taken within this time, we will hold a siege of the Secretariat on December 29 at 1pm.”
Earlier, protesters blocked the road in response to their demands, causing traffic to come to a halt on the road in front of the Kakrail Mosque at around 3:30pm.
Upon receiving the news, the Chief Advisor’s Personal Secretary (PS) Sajib M Khairul Islam, arrived at the scene, where the Inqilab Mancha leaders submitted a memorandum outlining their three demands. During this time, the secretary accepted the memorandum and assured the protesters that the Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus would be informed of their demands.
The three demands of the Inqilab Mancha are-
- The registration of the Awami League must be immediately cancelled.
- To protect patriotic students and the public from the covert killings of the Awami League, all terrorists within the party’s committees from the central level down to the union level must be immediately arrested.
- The complete security of all freedom fighters, including those in private universities, must be ensured throughout Bangladesh.
