Fact checking body BanglaFact in an investigation found that Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam’s statement on July uprising has been distorted as some segment of his speech have been cut out and was presented in a misleading manner.
In a report published on its Facebook page today, it said a video has been circulated on social media claiming that the adviser recently made such a comment on the July Uprising issue, saying, “Two thousand people were not martyred, there was just a conspiracy to remove Hasina.” reports BSS.
BanglaFact said while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Murder and Persecution of Journalists during the Fascist Regime” organized by Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust at the hall room of the Department of Films and Publications on Circuit House Road in the capital on May 5, he said, “I would like to take this opportunity to say that some newspapers do not write the term ‘July Uprising’. They write ‘July Movement’. They do not say that the July government is a government of mass uprising, they say it is the government after the changeover of power. They say the changeover of power”.
“Do you know the English for this? Its english is regime change, regime change means that which is the Indian narrative where regime change has taken place, a regime change operation has taken place, 2000 people were not martyred here, there was just a conspiracy here and Hasina was overthrown. No media outlet can do this,” he said.
The fact checking body said in his speech, the adviser basically means that it is not the job of any responsible media to disparage the July uprising or to present a people’s revolution as a mere changeover of power.
