Indictment hearing against Khaleda deferred

Latest New

Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday (Wednesday) reset January 12 of next year for hearing on charge framing against Begum Khaleda Zia in a case filed for dishonoring country’s national flag and for stigmatizing War of Liberation by rehabilitating

anti-Liberation War elements. Earlier, yesterday was fixed for charge hearing in the case. However, as Khaleda Zia was under medical treatment in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), he was not produced in the makeshift court setup in the central jail of Keraniganj of the city.
After hearing, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Asaduzzaman Nur fixed the new date for charge hearing.
Khaleda Zia’s counsel Zia Uddin Zia informed the media people about the new date.
Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddique filed the defamation case against the BNP chief on November 3, 2016, for dishonoring country’s map and flag by giving the right to hoist national on the vehicles of anti-liberation forces.
The same complainant filed another defamation case on the same day against Khaleda Zia and her slain husband Ziaur Rahman for stigmatizing War of Liberation by rehabilitating the anti-Liberation War elements.
The BNP chairperson is now in bail in the two cases. However, she has been sent to the prison on February 8, last year in a graft case.
