Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Sunday said Indian media outlets are attempting to portray Bangladesh as a terrorist state.
He made this remark on Sunday at an event in the capital organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) to mark its 30th anniversary.
The foreign adviser saidt, “Indian media are not pleased with Bangladesh’s popular uprising. They are spreading propaganda and trying to portray Bangladesh as a terrorist state on the global stage, which he described as highly unfair.
“There has been no connectivity among South Asian countries in the last 15 years, but now is the time to establish such connections.”
He also mentioned that the CPD can play a role in presenting the true picture of the country.
“After the popular uprising, we had to take charge in a very short time. During that period, the police were not functioning, and students were managing traffic. Gradually, the situation came under control.”
Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, “After democracy arrived in 1990, we began to realise that opposition voices were suppressed, nepotism flourished, and criminals found a place in politics. Freedom of the media was curtailed, and although people have changed, the mindset has not.”
