Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Tuesday alleged that Indian media is engaged in a “propaganda war” against Bangladesh and its interim government.

He made the remark during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this evening.

Alam, responding to a question, revealed that during his recent visit to Bangladesh, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri denied that the Indian government was involved in spreading disinformation against Bangladesh.

However, Misri acknowledged that Indian media was actively engaged in such activities, asserting that the Indian government does not interfere in media operations.

The issue of Indian media’s alleged misinformation campaign also surfaced during Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s recent visit to Davos, Switzerland. According to Alam, international journalists there raised concerns about how Indian media was portraying Bangladesh.

He noted that these journalists, being well-acquainted with Professor Yunus and his government, were aware of the misleading narratives being propagated.

The press briefing was also attended by Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad, and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi.

The allegations come amid heightened diplomatic engagements between Dhaka and New Delhi, with both sides maintaining that bilateral relations remain strong.

However, concerns over media narratives have added a layer of complexity to the evolving dynamics between the two neighboring countries.
