Indian Coastguards seize 79 fishermen, sailors from Bay of Bengal

Indian coastguards seized 2 most modern Bangladeshi fishing ships and their 79 fishermen and sailors from the Bay of Bengal within the water territory of Bangladesh adjacent to Sundarbans on Monday (Dec.09) and taken away into the Indian water territory, according to a delayed report received here.
Those fishing ships are FV Meghna-5 and FV Laila-2. The Sea fishing department of Bangladesh informed the owners of the seized fishing ships of the matter in writing. There are as many as 37 fishermen including sailors in FV Meghana-5 while there are as many 42 fishermen including sailors in FV Laila-2. Though 24 hours already passed after the incident the owners of the fishing ships could not be known the reasons behind seizing and taking away of the fishing ships by the Indian coastguards. On the other hand, any Govt. authority could not ascertain the place where from the 2 fishing ships were seized by Indian coastguards till the writing of this report.
Bangladesh Marine Fisheries Association confirmed the matter. Abid Hasan, Office Secretary of the Association disclosed, the 2 fishing ships were taken away by the Indian coastguards from the water territory of Khulna zone.
