Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has underlined the long-term vision of India-Bangladesh relations within New Delhi’s foreign policy priorities.

Addressing the NDC course participants at the National Defence College (NDC) in Dhaka on Monday, Verma said India’s growing engagement with the world is aimed at promoting international cooperation, advancing reforms in global governance, safeguarding the interests of the Global South, and ensuring inclusive and sustainable national development.

Sharing the information on the facebook page of High Commission of India to Bangladesh, he emphasised that India-Bangladesh ties remain central to India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy, the “Act East” framework, the MAHASAGAR doctrine, and India’s Indo-Pacific Vision.

He noted that both countries should work together to transform their geographical proximity and growing economic strength into “new opportunities for mutually rewarding cooperation.”

High Commissioner mentioned: “India and Bangladesh should work together to strengthen their interdependencies and transform their geographical proximity, growing economic capabilities and future aspirations, into new opportunities for mutually rewarding cooperation.”

Highlighting the role of regional integration, Verma said India and Bangladesh, as two of the largest economies in the region, are key drivers of BIMSTEC, headquartered in Dhaka, which aims to connect the growth opportunities of South Asia with Southeast Asia.

Reaffirming India’s approach, the High Commissioner said New Delhi will continue to pursue a “stable, positive, constructive, forward-looking and mutually beneficial relationship with Bangladesh,” built on mutual respect and sensitivity, with the people of both countries as the true stakeholders in the partnership.
