India pushes in 100 people thru border districts

Staff Reporter :

Despite repeated calls from the Government of Bangladesh to halt push in, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) continues to forcibly push people into Bangladesh through various border points.

At least 100 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, have reportedly been forcibly pushed into Bangladesh by BSF through five border districts – Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Moulvibazar, Feni, and Cumilla – since Wednesday night.

Though the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh sent a letter to Delhi to stop such illegal push in, India did not respond the letter.

Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain even on Wednesday told the journalists that India did not respond the letter. He also said that if any India citizens are pushed in, they will be sent back.

Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 21 individuals who were pushed in through the Joydharbhanga Borobari border in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila on Thursday morning. The group included 14 children, one 22-year-old youth, and six women, all hailing from Khulna and Narail districts.

Lt Col Sheikh Mohammad Bodruddoza, Commanding Officer of BGB-56 Battalion, said that the individuals had been living in different areas of Gujarat, India, for a long time before Indian police handed them over to the BSF, who then pushed them across the border near pillar no. 757/10-S.

A flag meeting was called by BGB, during which BSF officials denied involvement. Despite this, BGB lodged a strong protest, citing a violation of repatriation protocol. This comes after 28 other individuals were similarly pushed in through the Thakurgaon and Panchagarh borders earlier.
