BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Friday alleged that Indian policymakers are engaged in a conspiracy to ‘rehabilitate’ the Awami League, which he described as a “fallen fascist force.”
Speaking to journalists during a visit to BNP veteran Abu Taher Pramanik in Pabna’s Chatmohar upazila, Rizvi claimed that the neighbouring country began plotting “targeted conspiracies” following a recent meeting between Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London.
“They cannot accept Sheikh Hasina’s downfall,” Rizvi stated, alleging that India’s support is part of an orchestrated effort to restore the Awami League’s political standing after its loss of public support.
Rizvi was visiting Pramanik—also known as Taher Thakur—who is reportedly suffering from severe illness and facing financial hardship. On behalf of the BNP family and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Rizvi extended financial assistance for the veteran leader’s medical treatment.
The BNP leader also reiterated his party’s rejection of proportional representation in elections, calling instead for a return to a fully participatory and fair electoral process.
“The people have started walking the path of democracy, but we still have far to go,” he said. “BNP activists continue to face false cases, arrests, and enforced disappearances.”
He further accused the former Awami League-led government of engaging in mass corruption and money laundering during its 16-year rule, allegedly transferring illicit wealth to countries such as Canada and Malaysia.
Rizvi condemned the alleged media manipulation under Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, claiming it was used to suppress dissenting voices. “She tried to run smear campaigns through total media control, but the voices of 180 million people cannot be silenced. Only the people can decide who will govern this country,” he asserted.
