India clinch Test series 2-0 against Tigers

India clinched the two-match Test series 2-0 against Bangladesh after defeating the Tigers by seven wickets in the rain-interrupted second Test cricket match on the fifth and final day at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Tuesday.

Earlier, India eased past the Tigers by 280 runs in the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 22.

Sent into bat first, Bangladesh scored 233 in the first innings on the fourth day (Monday) thanks to ace batter Mominul Haque, who remained unbeaten with 107 runs.

India declared their first innings after piling up 285 for the loss of nine wickets on the same day. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a terrific 72.

Bangladesh scored 146 in their second innings on the final day. Opener Shadman Islam knocked a sedate 50 using 101 deliveries with 10 fours.

Chasing 95 runs to win, the hosts romped home making 98 runs for the loss of three wickets. Jaiswal notched up a sparkle 51 playing 45 deliveries with eight fours and a sixer. Jaiswal was adjudged the Man of the Match for his back-to-back half-century.

Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 26 for the loss of two wickets.
Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 7 and naught.

Mominul Haque could score two runs on the fifth day as he was caught at the leg slip by KL Rahul off Ravichandran Ashwin when the touring side’s total was 36 for the loss of three wickets.

Shadman and third-down Najmul Hossain Shanto contributing together 55 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Shanto (19) was bowled out by Ravindra Jadeja when the Tigers’ score was 91 for the loss of four wickets.
After Shanto’s dismissal, Shadman could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was caught at the gully by Jaiswal off Akash Deep when the tourists’ total was 93 for the loss of five wickets.

Litton Das (1) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant off Jadeja when the touring side’s score was 94 for the loss of six wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan (0) was caught & bowled by Jadeja when Bangladesh’s total was 94 for the loss of seven wickets.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (9) was caught behind by Pant off Jasprit Bumrah when Bangladesh’s score was 118 for the loss of eight wickets.

Taijul Islam (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Bumrah when the Tigers’ total was 130 for the loss of nine wickets.

Mushfiqur Rahim was bowled out by Bumrah when Bangladesh’s innings was concluded. Mushfiqur Rahim made 37 from 63 deliveries featuring seven fours.

Bumrah and Jadeja captured three wickets each instead of 17 and 34 runs respectively.
India had a poor start as opener Rohit Sharma (8) was caught at the long leg by Hasan Mahmud off Miraz when the home side’s score was 18.

One-down Shubman Gill (6) was trapped leg before wicket by Miraz when India’s total was 34 for the loss of two wickets.

Opener Jaiswal and Virat Kohli added 58 runs for the third wicket partnership before Jaiswal was caught at the extra-cover by Shakib Al Hasan off Taijul Islam when the home side’s score was 92 for the loss of three wickets.
Kohli and Pant helped their team to reach the winning spot. Kohli remained unbeaten with 29 runs, while Pant remained unbeaten with four runs.

Miraz picked up two wickets at the cost of 44 runs, while Taijul Islam took one wicket conceding 36 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin scored altogether 114 runs and 11 wickets in the two-Test series. Thus, he was adjudged the Man of the Series for his all-round performance.
