India reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining a crime-free border with Bangladesh, emphasizing the importance of stronger security measures and adherence to bilateral agreements, according to reports from the Times of India on Friday.

In a press briefing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson
Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Our position is clear. We summoned the acting deputy high commissioner and communicated our stance on border fencing explicitly.

We are committed to ensuring a crime-free border with Bangladesh by effectively tackling cross-border criminal activities, smuggling, and trafficking.”

The spokesperson also highlighted, “The installation of barbed wire fencing, border lighting, technical devices, and cattle fences are all part of the steps being taken to secure the border. All previous agreements on these matters will be executed by Bangladesh in a cooperative effort to combat such crimes.”

This statement followed the earlier summoning of Bangladesh’s acting high commissioner to India, Nurul Islam, earlier in the week to address ongoing border security concerns. During the meeting, India stressed the importance of implementing previously agreed-upon measures to enhance border security.

India reiterated its commitment to adhering to protocols and agreements regarding border fencing and security measures that have been established between the two governments, along with their respective border forces, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

This diplomatic exchange came shortly after Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma the previous day to discuss collaborative approaches to addressing border-related crime.
