Independent MP Azizul Islam, representing the Jessore-6 (Keshabpur) constituency, has called on Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to apologize to students for the violence and casualties during the quota reform protests.
He also advised rapid discussions to address the current situation and expressed sympathy with the students, reports media.
In a Facebook post on his page KM Aziz on Thursday, MP Azizul Islam, a former leader of the Keshabpur Upazila Chhatra League, detailed his call for action.
He criticized the arrest of students without political affiliations and argued that such actions are not solutions to the ongoing unrest.
He urged the government to release all detained students unconditionally and to facilitate a comprehensive dialogue involving university vice-chancellors, the education minister, the law minister, student leaders, and national professors to restore educational conditions.
The Facebook post highlighted the need for the highest level of sincerity from the state to address the accumulated grievances of students.
Azizul Islam expressed concern that some factions are attempting to exploit student discontent to destabilize the government.
He emphasized that both Obaidul Quader and the home minister should publicly apologize to the students, noting that their failure to do so is regrettable.
Azizul Islam expressed his deep sorrow over the deaths of students and stated that the heated situation was partly due to the statements of the two ministers.
He believes it is essential for them to apologize to the students and opposes labelling all students as supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami or Chhatra Shibir.
Azizul Islam said that he will address these issues in Parliament.
