Bangladesh Independent Candidates’ Unity Council Chairman, Alhaj Mohammad Abdur Rahim, has called upon the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, to immediately implement their 21-point demands. He made this appeal during a human chain event held in front of the National Press Club on Saturday at noon.

Abdur Rahim stated that the Bangladesh Independent Candidates’ Unity Council has played a significant role in the movement and struggle to overthrow the fascist Hasina government.

Following the fall of the fascist regime, from August 17 of last year, the Council organized seven consecutive days of protests, hunger strikes, human chains, and press conferences to demand the prompt implementation of their eight-point charter. Although the government initially assured them of implementing these demands, no progress has been made to date. Instead, he alleged that evasive tactics are being used to avoid implementation. If the interim government continues in this manner, all of its achievements will be rendered meaningless.

He further remarked that bureaucrats are not following government directives, which in turn is preventing the government from functioning independently. He warned that the government must visibly begin implementing these demands within the next seven days. Otherwise, the Council will enforce siege programs at the Ministry of Land, Dhaka North City Corporation, and other relevant departments. If necessary, they will be compelled to announce even tougher programs.

Commenting that the Unity Council is willing to give the government a year to implement reforms at the field level, Abdur Rahim added that their efforts to build electoral unity have already advanced significantly. “If we win the next election and take on the responsibility of governing the country, we will do everything necessary to build a modern and developed nation,” he said.
