Incessant rains disrupt Morrelganj citizens’ life

Bagerhat Correspondent :

The normal life of the residents of Morelganj Municipality in Bagerhat district has been disrupted due to 4 days of continuous rain. Rickshaw pullers, daily wage earners and working people have been suffering due to the incessant rain. In some places, the water is knee-deep, in others, the roads have been submerged. In the last 24 hours, 3.6 millimeters of rain has fallen. Harun-or- Rashid, Officer-in-charge of the Mongla Meteorological Office, confirmed this information. Due to the continuous rain accompanied with
rain water has accumulated in various places in the Municipality area. It goes without saying that there is no drainage system in the municipality; as a result, many roads have become unusable. In the worst affected areas
the working class, specially the rickshaw pullers and daily wage earners are suffering a lot of inconveniences. Billal Sheikh, a rickshaw-puller told, though the rain was stopped today the sufferings of the dwellers
not stopped till now. Water is accumulated on the roads. It is very difficult to drive rickshaws on those submerged roads. On the other hand, passengers also have less income. But the burden of installments is being placed on their heads. Aslam Mollah, a daily wage worker at a vegetable market said, there are few buyers in the market, so there is no work. I go out in the morning, but I can’t find work anywhere. Emdadul Islam who came to the market told, I went out to the market, now it feels like I went out to fight with an umbrella in one hand, shoes and a shopping bag in the other. On one hand, the drainage system is not good at all in the Municipality area. He added, our suffering seems to have no end. Md. Habibullah, UNO (UpazilaNirbahi Officer), Morrelganj and Municipal Administrator told, there are several problems including water-logging due to the low-lying area, we will start working on this issue soon.
