A day after issuing instructions to move out of the sewerage area in Haripur Bazar of Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet, the Roads and Highways Department has removed illegal encroachers with the help of the administration.
On Wednesday, Jaintapur Upazila Executive Officer George Mitra Chakma came to remove the illegal structures built on both sides of the highway on the site of the Roads and Highways Department.
At that time, an army team led by Major Mazharul Islam Nowshad of the Infantry Regiment 27 Bir Unit of the Haripur Gasfield Army Camp was also present to remove the illegally built structures.
Yesterday, Tuesday afternoon, the upazila administration set a specific time for the traders to move out. Since then, the traders concerned have removed their goods from the shops, although some have opened the tin cans of the shops, but the paved parts remain.
The eviction operation began from Taruhati point on Wednesday morning in the presence of administration personnel, officials of the Roads and Towns Department of Sylhet Division and Sylhet Tamabil Six-Lane Project, and surveyors at the Land Office. The eviction operation was ongoing until the last news was received.
Iqbal Hayat, Assistant Project Director of the Sylhet Tamabil Highway Six-Lane Project, Mohammad Solaiman, Deputy Assistant Engineer of Sylhet Division Roads and Towns Department, Shamim Ahmed, Deputy Inspector of Jaintapur Model Police Station, Shankar Chandra Deb, and officials of the Jaintapur Land Office, among others also attend here this time.
