Chattogram Bureau :
Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Aminur Rahman
is in a strict position to evacuate illegal structures in the hills.
He said, “Injustice means injustice, illegal means illegal. Action will be taken against anyone who has illegal construction on the hill.” He said this while attending the 26th meeting of the hill management committee at the
conference room of Chattogram Divisional Commissioner
on Monday.
The Divisional Commissioner said that having illegal structures on the hill is risky. Therefore, these illegal structures should be listed and evicted.
“And we have to find out how those who have no legal status get gas, electricity. We are looking at whether those who will be evicted can be brought under the shelter scheme,” he also said.
Dr Aminur Rahman also said that mountain cutting should be stopped. “Twenty-six factors were identified in 2007. What exactly causes landslides; there were 35 recommendations to prevent landslides. We will implement them. A committee will be formed for this.”
In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman accused Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and Development Authority (CDA) of cutting hills. He said, “We have conducted many operations in the last three months. It has been seen many times that mountains are cut at night. Our ground officers conduct night and morning raids. CCC is making roads. They will talk about roads, but they cannot get permission to cut mountains. The councilors are cutting mountains at will with a paper from the city corporation.”
