Illegal polythene seized at Mongla Port

The joint forces have seized illegal polythene and simfry net worth around 2 crore taka during a drive in Mongla Municipality. Media Officer of Coastguard Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid gave this information to journalists on Friday night.
He said that on Friday, a mobile court was conducted at Messrs. Hasan Store adjacent to Shapla Chattar More in Mongla Municipality in collaboration with Bangladesh Coast Guard, Navy and Department of Forest and Environment, Bagerhat.
During the operation, 2,500 kg of illegal polythene worth approximately 12 lakh taka and 5 lakh meters of simfry net worth approximately 17.5 crore taka were seized from the said establishment.
As these items are illegal as per the Environment Conservation Act and Fisheries Conservation Rules, the establishment was fined 20 thousand taka.
Later, the seized illegal polythene were handed over to the Bagerhat Department of Environment and the process of destroying the seized seam fry nets by burning them in an environmentally friendly manner is underway.
He further said that this campaign of Bangladesh Coast Guard for environmental protection is ongoing and will continue in the future.
