Authorities have demolished all structures of ‘Meghna Bricks,’ an illegally operated brick kiln in Sylhet Sadar Upazila, which was functioning without clearance from the Department of Environment.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday at Muradpur Point in Hajirai Mouza. The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Mahbubul Islam, with assistance from Shah Paran Police Station, the Department of Environment, and Fire Service officials.
Speaking on the matter, Sylhet Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khoshnoor Rubaiyat confirmed that Meghna Bricks had been operating unlawfully without the necessary environmental clearance. “In compliance with a High Court directive, the brick kiln was demolished, and its operations were ordered to be shut down,” she stated.
She further emphasized that the administration would continue its crackdown on illegal brick kilns and the removal of topsoil from agricultural land to prevent environmental degradation.
