NN Online:

Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday assured that Indian nationals staying illegally in Bangladesh will be sent back through proper diplomatic procedures—not forcefully pushed back across the border.

“Even if the individuals are Bangladeshi citizens, India cannot lawfully push them in without due process,” he told reporters after inaugurating the third floating Border Outpost (BOP) at the confluence of the Roymongol River and Boyesing Canal in Satkhira’s Shyamnagar upazila.

Responding to recent incidents of alleged push-ins by India, the Home Adviser said Bangladesh has already taken diplomatic measures to address the issue. “We’ve sent a formal letter seeking resolution and held discussions with our Ambassador, the Foreign Affairs Adviser, and Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman,” he noted.

Speaking at the same event, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui identified several affected areas, including Beanibazar, Sreemangal, and Habiganj in Sylhet; Roumari in Kurigram; and remote riverine zones of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

“Some push-ins were reported as recently as this morning,” he revealed, highlighting the challenges of monitoring the extensive border. “We’re working with local residents and the Ansar to curb these intrusions.”

He added that BGB continues to hold regular flag meetings with India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and sends protest letters following each incident.
