A covered van loaded with various goods, including illegal Indian medical and surgical items, brought in through customs evasion, has been seized by the special unit Investigation, Research and Management (IRM) team of Benapole Customs at the land port in Jeshore.

Based on a secret tip-off, the Benapole Customs House team seized the truck loaded with illegally imported goods worth half a crore taka before it crossed the house’s check post on Thursday night.

Benapole Customs House Assistant Commissioner Abu Saleh Abdun Noor confirmed the seizure of the goods to the media.

AC Abu Saleh led the operation to intercept the illegal goods. Assistant Revenue Officer Tanvir Ahmed, Assistant Revenue Officer Imdad Hossain and other concerned officials participated in the operation.

According to IRM sources, the importer of this illegal product is identified as US Enterprise, Benapole, Jeshore; the exporter is Geeta Enterprise, India. The C&F agent Messrs. Altaf & Sons was in charge of clearing the product.

The list of these illegally imported products includes various types of surgical items, medicines and sunglasses, whose bill of entry number is 114764.

In this regard, Assistant Commissioner of Customs House Abu Saleh Abdun Noor told the media that it was previously reported that the consignment, which was loaded with undeclared medical equipment, sunglasses, surgical goods and various types of high-quality medicines, along with declared goods, was coming to the Customs House check post without a gate pass after physical examination from Shed No. 35 of the port.

The consignment, which was evading a huge amount of government revenue, was promptly seized by the customs officials along with the vehicle before it crossed the Customs-BGB joint check post.
