Police have unearthed a secret arms manufacturing factory and arrested two people at Santhia upazila in Pabna district on Monday night.
The two arrested persons have been identified as Monir Hossain, 40, and Rezaul Islam, 42. Both are the residents of Sadar upazila.
Earlier on a tip-off, a team of police from Ataikula Police Station conducted an operation in the hideout and recovered a large amount of arms manufacturing equipment from the spot.
Police said that ‘Moyez Bahini’ had been carrying out various criminal activities in the remote Chatra Beel of the upazila for a long time. Based on secret information, a joint team conducted a raid at the den and seized huge equipment like drill machine, gun powder, cutting machine.
Sensing presence of the law enforcement agencies, many managed to flee, but two were detained.
During primary interrogation, the detained men informed that these weapons were being made for locally organised robberies and extortion, said officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ataikula Police Station Habibul Islam.
OC also said that the Moyez Bahini had been using the remote Chhatra Beel in Laxmipur Union as a base and holding ordinary people hostage through various crimes. After observing for several days, a raid was conducted on the den early Tuesday morning.
