IGP speaks in counter-extremism workshop in Sylhet

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, the people of our country are peaceful. They do not believe in militancy or terrorism. All are united for the sake of patriotism, peace, welfare and development of the country,” he said, urging Islamic scholars to present the correct interpretation of Islam against extremism and terrorism.
“If everyone works together, militancy and terrorism will not be able to establish a nest in our peaceful country,” he said. He urged everyone to build up resistance against militancy and terrorism.
The IGP said this while speaking at a workshop titled “Role of teachers-students, imams, scholars and representatives of civil society in countering extremism and terrorism” at the freedom fighter Shaheed SP M Shamsul Haque Auditorium in Sylhet District Police Lines on Monday as a chief guest.
He said that militancy and terrorism is an obstacle in the way of development and harmful to the image of the country. The IGP said that currently the capacity of Bangladesh Police has increased a lot. Police are now able to deal with any crime.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Zakir Hussain Khan and Sylhet Divisional Commission Abu Ahmad Siddiqui were the special guests on the occasion presided over by ATU DIG (Administration) Mofiz Uddin Ahmed.
Sylhet range DIG Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman presented the main article in the workshop. The keynote speaker SM Ruhul Amin highlighted the global context and the position of militancy and terrorism in the eyes of Islam.
Earlier, the IGP inaugurated Sylhet District Police Lines Police Officers Mess studio apartment at SMP’s Kotwali police station complex.
