Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has stated that while the police remain on heightened alert throughout July and August, he is unaware of any specific 11-day ‘special alert’ order.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday (July 29), the IGP denied knowledge of a directive that has already been circulated by the Special Branch (SB) of police.

According to SB sources, the alert—issued on July 28—warns of possible political unrest between July 29 and August 8, including secret gatherings and potential violent acts by Awami League activists despite a formal ban on political activity. The SB suspects that coordinated campaigns—both online and offline—may be launched to stir up chaos nationwide.

The directive was sent to senior law enforcement officials, including the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner, City SB units, Divisional Deputy Commissioners, Special Superintendents of Police in Chattogram and Khulna, and all district SPs.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury told the media that Awami League allies are trying to destabilize the country. He warned of firm action against any individuals or groups, both domestically and abroad, found involved in subversive plots.
