Amid the ongoing controversy over the demand for an ‘eight-hour workday’ in Bollywood, National Film Award-winning actress Rani Mukerji has shared her experience. Amid news of Deepika Padukone’s exit from the sequel to ‘Kalki’, Rani opened up about her work-life balance.

Rani said that when she was shooting for ‘Hichki’ after the birth of her daughter Adira, Adira was 14 months old. She followed a strict routine to breastfeed her.

She would pump milk in the morning and, with the help of the unit and the director, would finish the shoot within 6 to 7 hours. This would allow her to return home by noon before the traffic started.

In her words, “These issues have come into discussion now because maybe people are talking about them outside. But it’s a normal thing in all professions. I have also done it.

I have worked for a certain period of time. If the producer agrees, then the film can be made. If not, it can’t be made. It’s a matter of choice. No one is forcing anyone.”

Mentioning that there would be no war in the world if men had to give birth to children, the ‘Queen’ Rani said, “Just think, if men had to give birth to children, they would drive everyone crazy.

Now they have a lot of time on their hands, that’s why they are fighting. If they had to give birth to children, maybe there would be no war in the world. Because then they would only be busy with the child.”

“Because I think men are deprived of this extraordinary experience-the experience of giving birth to a child. It’s the closest feeling to God because we create a life,” she added.

According to the actress, “Men don’t have to go through physical changes. We go through physical and mental changes when we become mothers. I am very happy to be a girl. I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
