BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has warned that Bangladesh could plunge into serious uncertainty if anything happens to Khaleda Zia, describing her as a lifelong defender of democracy and voting rights.
Speaking at a large rally in Sirajdikhan on Saturday, he said Khaleda Zia spent four decades fighting injustice without ever compromising her principles.
“She embraced prison with a smile, but returned gravely ill.
Had she received proper and timely advanced treatment, she would not be suffering like this today,” he said.
Gayeshwar described Khaleda Zia as “the nation’s banyan tree,” a symbol of protection and stability. “If we lose her, the country will face a major crisis. Even the joy of voting will disappear,” he added.
Addressing the rally in support of BNP candidate Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah for the Munshiganj-1 (Sirajdikhan–Srinagar) constituency, Gayeshwar said the nation is confronted by forces more dangerous than fascists.
“The communal force facing the country today is even more frightening. They are eager to push the nation into darkness,” he remarked.
He stressed that the upcoming election is crucial, not merely for electing MPs but for bringing major reforms in the interest of the people. “We must eliminate inequality, social injustice, and religious discrimination to establish a state based on fairness,” he said.
The event was presided over by Vishudhananda Chakraborty, president of the Ramakrishna Bhakta Seva Sangha’s Munshiganj district branch. Among the speakers were BNP-backed candidate Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Srinagar Thana BNP President Shahidul Islam, General Secretary Hafizul Islam, Sirajdikhan Thana General Secretary Haider Ali, district BNP leaders Anwar Hossain, Dulal Das, Md Jasim Dewan, and other prominent members of the Sanatan community.
