The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Monday fixed May 25 for the submission of the investigation report into the shocking case of burning the bodies of six students at Ashulia, Savar, during the mass uprising that toppled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5.

Prosecutor Advocate Mizanul Islam informed the tribunal that investigators have obtained crucial video footage capturing the killings, marking the final stage of the probe. He also revealed that two additional suspects have been identified in connection with the crime, and efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend others involved.

According to investigators, the incident occurred when police allegedly loaded the bodies of six protesters onto a van and set it on fire. Shockingly, evidence suggests that one of the victims was still alive when the fire was lit, leading to an agonizing death. The disturbing footage of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms, causing nationwide outrage.

As the high-profile investigation neared its conclusion, another explosive video surfaced showing the victims being shot prior to being burned, adding a chilling new dimension to the case.

Advocate Mizanul Islam added that efforts are underway to arrest the newly identified suspects and produce them before the tribunal.

Meanwhile, hearings also took place on three other cases linked to mass killings during the same uprising, specifically in Dhaka’s Jatrabari and Rampura areas. Former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan, and 11 others were produced before the tribunal regarding these cases.

The tribunal extended the deadline for the submission of investigation reports in the Jatrabari and Rampura cases by three months, setting July 20 as the new deadline.

The nation now watches closely as investigators race to complete their reports on these dark chapters of Bangladesh’s political history.
